AN “A” IS WHERE WE’RE FEELING FINE…

LET’S KEEP MOVING UP WITH “59”!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We went from good to great, so now let's keep feeling fine and move up with 59!
Now its time for us to stand firm for our integrity and our pride to prove to everyone that we are a true A, now lets maintain it. Parents, please do your part to ensure that the students are ready for the FCAT by being on time, having had a good attendance, and getting a good night’s sleep.

What to do BEFORE the test?
Get a good night of sleep.
Be confident, do positive self-talk ( stop critical statements)
Eat a healthy breakfast
Get to school on time. Tardiness may cause anxiety- allow yourself extra time to relax
Do not discuss the test with friends immediately before taking the test
Bring a jacket or sweater

What to do DURING the test?
Read the directions carefully
Manage your time
Sit up straight in chair
If you get stuck on a question, mark it, then go to the next one and come back (do easy questions first)
Think about relaxation techniques-breathing exercises
Go back and reread the questions before you look for the answer again
Do not look around the room to see what the other students are doing
Stay focused and do not think about anything but the test

What to do AFTER the test?
You deserve a reward for putting forth your best effort. Parents can discuss a reward prior the test
Do not continue to dwell on the test after it is over
No matter how you did on the test, you will learn something from the experience

What can parents do to help alleviate anxiety?
Be supportive
Don’t compare your child with others-brothers, sisters, friends, etc
Tell your child how proud you are of his abilities
Highlight his strength
Make sure your child knows that education is important in your household
Stay in contact with his/her teacher
Ask for suggestions or tips to assist at home
Give your child some undivided attention each night ( even if it’s only 15 minutes)
